The Analysis Sheet

This analysis sheet is used to assess the competitiveness of a tourist attraction on a scale ranging from 0 to 3, where 0 represents not available and 3 represents strong.

Through this analysis, we are able to identify strong and weak aspects based on observations made during the site visit. For instance, a score of 2 was given for accessibility, indicating a moderate level that requires further improvement to achieve a score of 3.

Overall, this analysis allows for a clear identification of the strengths and weaknesses of Borneo Empurau Farm & Resort as a competitive tourist attraction in the modern era.

1)Accessibility Scored [2/3]

We gave Borneo Empurau Farm & Resort a score of 2 out of 3 for accessibility because the resort is located about 53 km from Kuching and can be reached directly by road. Parking facilities at the resort are adequate and generally well-organized, meaning visitors who arrive in their own vehicles do not face major issues finding a space. However, public transportation options remain limited, with no dedicated shuttle services available, and signage along the route is minimal, which can make navigation difficult for first-time visitors.

The main reason why we deducted 1 mark is due to the overall travel experience: while parking is fine, the road leading to the resort is in poor condition, which reduces convenience and comfort for tourists.

Recommendation

The resort should focus on enhancing accessibility by introducing shuttle services from nearby towns to cater to tourists without private vehicles. Clearer directional signage along the route would also help first-time visitors navigate more easily. Additionally, a digital navigation guide such as QR code maps or a simple mobile app could provide tourists with real-time directions and information.

2) Visitor Numbers Scored [3/3]

We gave a full score of 3 out of 3 for visitor numbers because the resort attracts a steady flow of tourists, especially families, school groups, and domestic travelers. Seasonal peaks during holidays show strong demand, and the variety of attractions (water park, aviary, hatchery) appeals to different demographics.

Recommendation

To maintain this strength, the resort should introduce loyalty programs or annual passes to encourage repeat visits. It could also expand its reach to international tourists by partnering with travel agencies and offering bundled packages.

3) Revenue Scored [3/3]

We gave a score of 3 out of 3 for revenue because the resort has multiple income streams: entrance fees, accommodation, food outlets, and the merchandise. This diversified model ensures financial sustainability.

Recommendation

The resort should continue developing value-added experiences such as guided tours or cultural workshops. Expanding the souvenir shop with locally made crafts and Empurau-themed products would also boost sales.

4) Infrastructure and Facilities Scored [2/3]

We gave 2 out of 3 because the facilities are well maintained, clean, and fully accessible, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Regular upkeep and sanitation are prioritized to provide comfort and reliability, while accessible design features allow all visitors to move through the space with ease and confidence.

Recommendation

The resort should collaborate with local authorities to repair and upgrade the access road. Potholes, uneven surfaces, and narrow stretches need to be addressed to ensure a safer and smoother journey. Adding street lighting along certain parts of the road would also improve safety, especially for evening visitors.

5) Marketing and Promotion Scored [3/3]

We gave Borneo Empurau Farm & Resort a score of 3 out of 3 for marketing and promotion because the resort is active on social media and regularly shares updates, photos, and videos that attract attention. It has also gained recognition from local leaders and tourism platforms, which helps build its reputation. The branding around the Empurau fish makes the resort stand out compared to other attractions.

Recommendation

The resort should continue working with travel agencies and strengthen its social media promotion by posting more videos and visitor experiences. Simple campaigns such as seasonal promotions or festival events can also help attract repeat visitors and keep the resort popular.

6) Online Reviews Scored [2/3]

After searching for Borneo Empurau Farm & Resort on Google, it can be seen that the attraction has a good overall rating of around 4.3 out of 5, indicating that most visitors are satisfied with their experience. Many reviews mention positive aspects such as the natural surroundings, family-friendly activities, and enjoyable attractions suitable for day visits. However, there are also some comments pointing out weaknesses, particularly related to accommodation quality, facility management, and crowd or safety control during busy periods. These mixed reviews may influence tourists to be more careful when planning their visit

Recommendation

Borneo Empurau Farm & Resort should immediately implement clear safety guidelines with visible signage, install railings and proper queue systems, hire and train sufficient lifeguards, and improve customer service by handling complaints respectfully and professionally, as these measures would not only prevent injuries but also restore public trust and enhance its reputation.

7) Environmental Sustainability Scored [2/3]

We gave Borneo Empurau Farm & Resort a score of 2 out of 3 for environmental sustainability because the resort has already introduced eco-friendly initiatives such as using solar-powered buggies for transportation and practicing fertigation with reused paint buckets, which reduces waste and promotes resource efficiency. These efforts show a clear commitment to sustainability, but the resort has not yet fully implemented broader renewable energy systems or comprehensive green certifications that would elevate it to the highest level.

Recommendation

The resort could encourage sustainability by providing reusable items for guests such as refillable water bottles or eco-friendly shopping bags. This reduces single use plastics and fits naturally into the tourism experience while showing visitors that the resort values environmental responsibility without requiring large scale government style initiatives.

8) Cultural Authenticity Scored [3/3]

We gave a score of 3 out of 3 because the resort offers longhouse-style accommodations, local cuisine, and cultural elements that reflect Sarawak’s heritage.

Recommendation

The resort could enhance its cultural appeal by incorporating more traditional design elements into its landscaping and recreational areas, such as murals, carvings, or themed gardens inspired by local heritage. It can also highlight local stories and traditions through informative signage or guided tours, so visitors not only enjoy the facilities but also learn about Sarawak’s culture in a meaningful way.

9) Local Support Scored [2/3]

We gave a score of 3 out of 3 because the resort enjoys strong support not only from the local community but also from the government. Local leaders and authorities have recognized its contribution to tourism development, and nearby residents benefit from job opportunities and business collaborations. This combination of community and government support strengthens the resort’s credibility and ensures smoother operations.

Recommendation

To further improve local support, the resort can collaborate with local farmers and artisans to supply fresh produce, traditional crafts, and cultural products directly to visitors. This not only promotes local entrepreneurship but also gives tourists a more authentic experience. By integrating government recognition with community-driven initiatives, the resort can build stronger ties and ensure sustainable growth.

10) Innovation Scored [2/3]

We gave a score of 2 out of 3 because the resort has adopted modern payment methods such as QR code and debit card for most services, which makes transactions easier and more convenient for visitors. However, the souvenir shop only accepts cash, which limits flexibility and may be less convenient for tourists who prefer cashless options.

Recommendation

The resort should expand its cashless payment options to include the souvenir shop, ensuring consistency across all facilities. In addition, it can introduce more digital features such as online booking systems or QR codes linked to cultural stories and product information. By combining modern payment systems with interactive digital tools, the resort can strengthen its innovative image and provide a smoother experience for visitors.
